Arizona provides many CNA employment opportunities. To work legally as a CNA in Arizona, you must meet the necessary requirements of the state. These requirements are implemented in accordance of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987. The Arizona State Board of Nursing carries out these laws to qualify applicants wishing to work at a CNA.

Requirements to work as a CNA in Arizona
Successful completion of state - approved training Pass both written and skill CNA State Exam Applicants must submit fingerprint cards. Licenses/certificates and temporary permits will not be issued without the results of a state and federal background check

Training program criteria in Arizona
To become a CNA in Arizona, completion of a 120 hour Arizona State Board of Nursing approved nursing assistant program is required for the state exam. Some state - approved training programs may differ when it comes to number of hours in classroom and practical training.

Renewing Certification in the State of Arizona
To renew CNA Certification in Arizona:
(1) A pre-printed recertification form will be mailed out to the CNA 2-3 months prior to your expiration date. If you still do not receive any notice, you may obtain renewal form by contacting Arizona Nurse Aide Registry or visiting State Registry's website.
(2) Requirements for recertification are:
You must have worked nursing assistant duties atleast 160 hours within the past 2 years. You must have no felony convictions.
(3) Enclose documentation of citizenship or nationality for licensure and renewal fee.
(4) Completed form with required documents and fees must be mailed (No Fax) to the address indicated in the form.

To renew Expired CNA Certification in Arizona:
(1) Obtain Renewal Form and CNA Lapsed/Expired Certificate Questionnaire by contacting AZ Nurse Aide Registry or visiting State Registry's website.
(2) Requirements for renewing expired certificate are:
You must have worked nursing assistant duties at least 160 hours within the past 2 years. You must have no felony convictions.
(3) Enclose the following:

Applying for Reciprocity in Arizona

If an approved CNA moves to Arizona from another state, the applicant must contact the Arizona Nurse Aide Registry to obtain a transfer/reciprocity form. Completed form with required information, documentations and fees must be submitted by mail. These requirements are
(1) proof that he or she is listed as active on nursing assistant activity and
(2) proof that he or she is currently working as CNA or completed the state training program and passed the CNA state exam.
