Earn CNA License to Offer Nursing Cares

Why is the CNA License mandatory for offering nursing cares? In the United States of America, the federal authorities have made it mandatory for the nurse aides to posses a CNA License (or Certification) to safeguard the public health and welfare.

In order to implement the federal provisions, the congress has also passed a legislation OBRA-87 and mandates every state to evaluate the competency of the nurse aides. The possession of the License also proves that the nursing assistant holding a nurse aide certification is well qualified in the nursing care skills, knowledge and abilities for offering the safe, quality and competent cares to the patients.

The competency evaluation of a candidate is assessed through a Nurse Aide Licensing Exam and the qualified candidates are awarded a CNA License, if he/she passes the nurse assistant evaluation exam. But, the eligibility to sit in the exam needs completion of the state and federal OBRA approved Nurse Aide Training program.

The Nurse Aide Training program

CNA Training Program features two separate components of the Classroom Course Instruction and Clinical Training. The duration of the course is OBRA-87 required minimum 75 hours that can be completed in 4-6 weeks. The students are prohibited working with the actual patients during classroom instruction but, Clinical hands-on experience offers them opportunity to gain experience with the patients of long term care facility, under the direct supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse or a Registered Nurse.

The program costs 0 to 00 depending on the training providers. The program can be completed from the post secondary schools, community colleges, private schools and technical institutes. Even American Red Cross offers quality training programs in 36 states of America.

The completion of the training program allows students to sit for the Certification Test.

The CNA Certification Test

The Certification Exam consists of two separate parts including, a Written (or Oral) Test and Skill Test. The state Board of Nursing or its partnered testing agencies offer the Nurse Aide Exams in the testing sites fixed by the testing authorities. The candidates are offered two chances to clear the exam and failure to pass the test, even after two opportunities, require completion of the training program once again to gain eligibility for sitting in the exam.

The passing of the nurse aide test awards CNA License, which is valid for two years. CNAs must get their license renewed within two years, before it gets expired.

There are certain state requirements for the renewal and they include, working for specific number of hours, background screening and submission of the testing fees.

The CNAs aiming to move from one state to another state are advised to contact the Licensing authority of that state to find out the licensing requirements of the moving state. Once you meet the certification necessities, you are allowed to work in different types of health care systems located in the state.
