What Does a Community College Cost?

Community college costs are normally lower than four year universities. Students can take classes at community college and earn credits toward a two year or four year degree program at a lower cost.

Community colleges are local colleges that offer two year degrees, certifications and many classes will transfer later to a four year university. On average community college costs are lower than four year universities.

CNA

The national average college tuition cost for public universities is ,694 per year for in state residents. This figure includes both tuition rates and fees for a full time student.

The average college tuition cost at private colleges and universities is around ,000 per year in tuition and fees.

Now compare this to the average yearly tuition for a community college. The average cost of community college tuition is only ,076 per year. This is less than half than a traditional four year public university and much less than a private college.

Attending a community college will also help offset the costs if a student decides to continue his or her education toward a bachelor's degree. Since community college costs are lower students are not likely to be accumulating student loans which will help their financial state in long term future.

Another factor to consider is that each year tuition rates rise. In fact college tuition costs increase at about twice the general inflation rate, about 8% per year. The future and long term costs are something that all college students, current and future, should consider when choosing a college.

Even though community college tuition costs and four year college costs increase, many students benefit from financial aid programs. Government grants such as the Pell grant provide funding for many college students. In fact students who attend community colleges may qualify for grants that would cover most or all of their community college tuition costs.

Scholarship programs awarded by colleges, businesses and non profit organizations are also available to help students defray the cost of community college tuition. With a combination of savings, financial aid, and scholarships many students today are able to afford college tuition costs and further their education.

Do Well in College Classes by Gaining a Competitive Advantage

Many people wonder how students in college classes consistently achieve high marks in nearly any subject they take. My experience in college has led me to believe that getting good grades in college classes is more related to competitive advantage over other students and not by sheer luck or intellect.

How do you gain a competitive advantage in college? To do so, think of how businesses compete in the marketplace. When one business thinks of an innovative process to reduce costs and gain market share, most competitors seek to compete by imitating the original business behavior. When everyone is using the innovative process, no one has a competitive advantage over the other. College is similar in the sense that if you want to do well, think of a way to innovate and gain a competitive advantage over other students.

CNA CLASSES

Here are a few simple examples in which you can gain an advantage from other students:

1. The use of a computer effectively can really help you organize the class. Does the teacher appreciate typed vs written assignments? Can you use online calendars to help organize deadlines?

2. Use a different style of study material like flash cards. Change the way you study simple concepts involving vocabulary. Try including pictures, unique phrases, or any other innovative approach to learn the class's material.

3. Try using technology in new ways. For example, you can put study materials on your phone or other portable device. Utilize online resources and social networking sites for help and advice.

There are many ways to innovate in the classroom that can really make a difference with your grades. If the class has a curve with tests and assignments, then this concept really makes a difference. You don't have to achieve a perfect score on every item in the class; it just needs to be higher than most students. This means that a student does not need to be better than everyone in the college, just those students in the class.

English Composition Classes At Core Of All College Education

Students are returning to college in droves, whether they have just graduated from high school or are returning to college after several years on the job. Students from every walk of life will be deciding which classes to take, and trying to figure out the ones that will be most beneficial to them. An English composition class may be one of the best classes to take when students first enroll in college, because of all the benefits it provides.

An English composition class is designed to teach new college students how to critically read and write. Students will read a wide variety of literature, from poetry to short stories and novels. They will read works that are considered classics, as well as newer short fiction or poetry. The idea is to expose students to many kinds of literary works.

CNA CLASSES

Students will also be required to write a number of papers analyzing what they read. They will be taught to analyze literature on the basis of a variety of literary conventions, which are standards for criticism and analysis. These standards will include topics such as theme, plot, character analysis, and symbolism, to name a few.

In addition to literary convention, an English composition class will also cover structural topics of importance. For example, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure will all be covered in this class. These structural elements of English are the glue that holds a paper together.

Students will be taught how to read a piece of literature in a manner that leads them to a thesis, or theory, about the literary work. Often a thesis is derived on a comparison of characters, or thematic elements within a story or poem. It is the student's job to prove their thesis by drawing on the literary elements within a story and creating a coherent piece of work that has meaning.

Students will also learn to write papers and essays that use a particular style or format. English classes generally use the MLA format, but the APA style is also commonly used in a college environment, as well as a professional environment. Students will learn to use the index in each stylebook in order to format their papers according to the necessary format, including spacing, titles, bibliographies, and footnotes and other annotations.

In college, students are usually required to take a minimum of two English composition classes. Two semesters of English composition will give students the tools they need to create papers in all of their other classes. Nearly every class in college will require essays and other types of explanatory papers to show that the student understands the coursework and can write an articulate summation, when needed.

English Composition Classes At Core Of All College Education

Once a student graduates, the lessons learned in an English composition class will easily translate over into the working environment. This is such a necessary part of higher education that many a class is being offered in a free online college format. In nearly every professional job that requires a college degree, employers are looking for potential employees who can write well, and, with this course, that will definitely be you.

Cool College Class Ring Stone Effects

You've spent many years in college and worked hard all along the way. With graduation nearing, this is a perfect time to treat yourself and get your own college class ring. Class rings normally have your college and your degree. Even if you attend school through online means or you are home schooled, a jeweler has made a ring for you (or they can make one special just for you).

Along with specifying the metal and the stone and year, now you can also select a special effect for your stone. Stone options add a little more to the cost of the ring. Depending on the jeweler, here's some of the stone effects you can pick from:

CNA CLASSES

-- Astralight stone effect

Astralight is a special option underneath the stone and it gives the stone the illusion of a rainbow beneath it. Astralight can be done on either smooth or faceted stones. It looks really good.

-- Sundance stone effect

The Sundance effect also can be done on either smooth or faceted stones. It is a special effect under the stone that gives the illusion of rays beneath the stone.

-- Encrusting effect

This is where an embedded yellow gold symbol or yellow gold letter is placed into the top of your stone. Encrustings look better on darker stones and are available on the smooth stones. With this effect, you would not want to combine this with either the Sundance or Astralight stone options.

-- Protected emblem effect

This is a symbol or letter design located underneath the stone. This effect works better with the lighter colored stones and is available on smooth stones. You wouldn't want to combine this with Sundance or Astralight either.

I wish you an awesome graduation. It's a wonderful time in your life and your class ring is that something extra you can always carry with you. It serves as a reminder that you "made it."

College Courses - How Do I Know What Classes to Take If I Don't Have a Major Yet?

Though many students are ready to enter college with their choice of study already in mind, there are a great number of students who go "undecided" for their major upon starting their freshman year. Usually within the first few semesters, students must declare their major so that they can focus on the specific courses for their junior and senior years. So while you may be trying to make the decision on a final major, what courses should you take in the meantime?

Depending on the school you attend, whether they are focused more on liberal arts, or engineering, or even art school, it's best to look at the core classes. These can range depending once again on the school you choose to attend. For liberal arts colleges, most core classes include some sort of English or Literature course, Ethics, some sort of science (physics, biology, or chemistry), business, foreign language, or art course. Getting these prerequisite classes out of the way will help you prepare for a course that will eventually fall under your major's requirements.

CNA CLASSES

If you're not even sure where to begin regarding your core courses, you may want to speak with your academic advisor. They can surely help you find a direction to head in to successfully earn your degree. They can also offer advice on what courses to take while you're making your decision on a major. If you know you want to enter the field of engineering, but haven't quite decided on the type of engineering, they can suggest the basic introductory courses to at least get the ball rolling. Their knowledge in your field of interest will certainly help you on your way to earning your degree.
